Town Vrgorac

Town Vrgorac is situated at important traffic crossing and it is famous rural tourism destination of dalmatian hinterland. Town Vrgorac is administative, traffic, commercial and tourist centre of Vrgorac province. It is situated in mountain Biokovo and Makarska riviera hinterland, to which there is 13 air and 40 km road line. In its history town Vrgorac was important traffic centre, because all commercial roads bave been passing there by, from Turkish empire to Venetian republic, from Bosnia to Dalmatia and from hinterland to sea. In history of town Vrgorac, it has been settled by illyrian and later in 7 th century by croatian tribes, which have been integrated into Neretva principality. Viticulture, fruit growing, vegetable growing, cattle breeding, traffic, trade and crafts were the main activities of Vrgorac Province inhabitants. Town Vrgorac has changed many rulers and authorities: From Turks, who have ruled here from 15 – 17 th century, to French and Austrians, and all of them have left many buildings, roads and fortresses for defence of town Vrgorac and its Vrgorac province. In latest history, Town Vrgorac is famous Rural Tourism centre with developed agriculture, wine production on fertile Rastok and Vrgorac field. In its vicinity there are numerous Rural Houses which offer Rural Tourism services through famous tourist agencies and holiday makers. After the highway from town Split to town Ravca has been built, growing number of guests and tourists are coming to Town Vrgorac and Vrgorac province, so they could enjoy stay in rural houses, domestic food in Rural Environment and beautiful nature.
