In the histoy of town Tucepi, its name it has got after the ancient Illyrian's meaning of the willage near the water springs. The settlement is dating even from the ancient time, when the Illyrians and Romans have lived here. In the middle age, many churches have been built. In the writen documents of the history of town Tucepi, it has been mentioned for the first time, in the year 1434. as the settlement on the slopes of the Biokovo mountain. Even the remains of the villae rusticae from the 13th century have been found here. The fortress with the towers, has been built in its close vicinity for the defence of the turkish army attacks. At that time, many immigrants from the Bosnia have come here, for the safety and better life. Later in the history of town Tucepi, the residents have been dealing with trade, fishing and tourism.
