Town Trilj

Town Trilj is Tourist Town of Sinj province and famous after top tourist offer and River Specialties which are offered to guests in beautiful rural environment. Town Trilj is situated by river Cetina and it is 34 km far of town Split and 13 km of town Sinj. Town Trilj has rich history and it has been populated even in antiquity. Illyrian tribes Delmati have lived here, later after their defeat, Romans have come and there built large transit military camp ( Tilurium ) on slopes of nearby hill above town Trilj and barrack for famous VII legion, which was keeping the crossing over River Cetina and that province. If roman legion counted about 5.000 solders, camp had rooms for troops in passing toward further destinations and their families have lived in surrounding settlements, it can be only assumed, how large that camp and barrack were. After fall of Roman empire in 5 th century Croatian tribes have begun to come there in 7 th century, settled there and started to cultivate the fertile field by river. Later Turks, French and Austrians have come, and from little commercial Town Trilj has become modern town which started to deal with trade, agriculture and tourism. By River Cetina there are numerous restaurants and Rural Houses which provide domestic food and famous river specialties.
