Town Podstrana

The town Podstrana is situated in a close proximity to the city of Split. It is renowned for its long beach, numerous tourist attractions, restaurants and hotels. Town Podstrana has got its name after the sloping ground, on which the town has been built. All the houses and the tourist objects are built near the main road and the coast, so the tourists can reach the beach straight from the houses.

The town of Podstrana and its riviera are situated in close proximity to the city of Split and is extending from the lower part of the River Zrnovnica to the Mutogras Hill in the south-east. The nearby larger towns and cities, roads and the Split Airport (Resnik), as well as its high-quality tourist attractions and service, render Podstrana as the popular tourist destination. Podstrana 6 kilometres long shore, comprises the lovely sandy and pebble beaches surrounded by pine forests. During a watching the sea, anyone can marvel at the sight of the neighbouring islands.

History of town Podstrana

History of Town Podstrana was turbulent. First written records date back to the 1st century when the Greek colonists settled in this area. In times to come, many different rulers and authorities governed this locality, some of which were the Avars, the Venetians, the Turks, the French, etc. In the history of town Podstrana, all of them left their marks on the culture, tradition and architecture of this area. Unfortunately, due to constant building and restructuring, not much of it was preserved.
