Regatta Mrduja Split

Regatta Mrduja Split is one of the oldest in the Europe, and is taking place at the beginning the Octobar. In ancient year the 1927. the first regatta of even 22 sailing vessels with crews has hold. The count Tony Pavlovic has that ancient year designed the 22 nm regatta on the route of the cliff of Sustipan to the little island Mrduje and the return. Because of its attractiveness, large interest and beauty, it has become the tradition. The winner at the 79th Regatta Mrduja Split was the crew from the Belgrade with the time of 3 hours and 18 minutes. It is very interesting the history of the winners. The skipper Frane Mitrovic has hold the record of 2 hours and 21 minutes for 25 years, untill it was broken the year 2008. by town Umag cruiser «Shining maxi» and the time of 2 hours and 16 minutes.In the year 2010. 227 sail boats have been registered, shaped the start line and started at the pistol shot to the island of Mrduja, 11 nm far off.

The practice, team work and experience of the skippers, was the decisive for the sailing speed of the boats,turning around the island Mrduja, and as fast return to the finish as possible. The start,sailing and return to the finish was under the rigid control of the intenational judges. All the sail boats and cruisers have been escorted by the professional teams and services in case of any accident,injury, forbidden act or sailing on the sea.

It was wonderful to see Regatta Mrduja Split, those beauties with the large sails, blue sea and surrounding islands. All the visitors,guests and tourist have enjoyed, in spite of the cloudy weather.
