Marjan days celebration

In the town of Split, at the beginning of May, the Marjan days are celebrating as the symbol and pride of all the town of Split inhabitants. It is less known that the Marjan hill is of volcanic origin, 178 metres high,the highest top named the Telegrin,long 3,5 km,wide 1,5 km,area of the 340 hectares,in the year 1964. is proclaimed as the forest-park according to the Nature protection law, its latin name is Marulianus,with 40 chapels and sacral objects and 12 churches. The first Afforestation has started in the year 1852. arround the Jewish graveyard. Thanks to sir Juraj Kolombatovic, the planned Afforestation of the whole area of the hill Marjan, has started in the year 1884.

Thanks to this merited citizen, the town of Split has the beautiful park and forest. This traditional folk celebration covers the rich program of the gastronomic,sports,music and entertainment, always on Sunday, so many guests,tourists and citizens May come and enjoy the beautiful view from the hill and taste the original dalmatian specialties. It is, in the same time the very start of the tourist season.
